Capricorn Enterprise, in partnership with Livingstone Shire Council proudly launched Taste Capricorn Coast this week at High Valley Dawn Permaculture Farm Yeppoon. The project, which was funded as part of the Australian Government's Bushfire Recovery Initiative to support the region in response to the 2019 summer bushfires, celebrates the local flavours and colourful array of producers, eateries, retail outlets, markets, and farm experiences right on our doorstep. Featuring a bright new website, which incorporates maps, brochures, recipes and profiles of the 46 local businesses currently involved, Taste Capricorn Coast will encourage visitors and local residents to tour, explore, and stay longer in the region, providing opportunities to undertake farm tours, visit farm gate stalls, sample the produce and be educated in the nutritional, economic and taste benefits of consuming fresh produce. Capricorn Enterprise CEO, Mary Carroll is delighted to see Taste Capricorn Coast come to fruition after many months of hard work. “Yeppoon, together with the villages dotted along the coastline and hinterland have decades of agricultural history and merit,” Mary said. “We have an incredible amount of local passion and knowledge in one community and as the increasing appetite for ‘home-grown’ further develops, this is the first step in putting the Capricorn Coast on the map as a culinary destination of choice.” “Visitors and locals now want to know exactly where their food comes from and how many miles their food has travelled before it arrives on their plates, so this project will assist to guide and educate the locavores in our community,” Mary said. Over 40 guests attended the official launch including Federal Member for Capricornia Michelle Landry, Andy Ireland - Mayor Livingstone Shire Council, along with many local growers, producers and retailers, who were given the opportunity to showcase their delicious local produce. Mayor Andy Ireland said Council was proud to partner in this initiative with Capricorn Enterprise, which would create many opportunities for the region’s agricultural, hospitality and tourism sector now, and into the future. “We are very fortunate that the Livingstone Shire region is abundant in fresh, quality, locally grown produce, and this is a wonderful project to assist in showcasing all of the talented and hard-working businesses that provide great service to locals and visitors every day,” Mayor Ireland said. Federal Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry was also pleased to attend the wonderful event which launched celebration of all that the Capricorn Coast has to offer. “The project was proudly funded by the Australian Government to bring producers, eateries, retail outlets, markets and farm experiences together,” Michelle said. “Visitors and residents are invited to follow the flavours and head off on a self-guided journey by using the interactive maps featured on Taste Capricorn Coast, or leave the foraging and prep to the professionals and sample the best of the region’s produce in some of the most celebrated eateries along the Capricorn Coast.” Taste Capricorn Coast signage is now displayed by participating retail businesses and farm gates, and hard copy maps are available from many businesses across the Capricorn Coast.
